Full and defined cheekbones are thought of as beautiful in our society. You often hear women complimenting other women’s cheekbones, and you’ve noticed that yours don’t resemble the ones that are being praised.
If you’ve lost the contour in your cheeks because of aging or you were born without the cheek definition you’ve always wanted, cheek implants are a relatively quick and effective way to add facial definition. As far as plastic surgeries go, it’s a fairly simple procedure with immediate results.
What Does the Surgery Entail?
Sometimes, cheek implants are placed during other procedures, so the implants can be put in through the incisions made for those other procedures. If you’re only having implants inserted, our surgeon can simply insert the implants and then form the cheek tissue.
What’s the Difference Between Implants and Fillers?
The biggest difference is that cheek implants are permanent and fillers aren’t. Hyaluronic gel fillers typically last six months to a year before they need to be reinjected to restore the volume.
Implants are permanent (unless there’s a problem, and then they can be removed), eliminating frequent doctor visits to “refill” the area. Since fillers are injected with needles, there’s also swelling, bruising and discomfort at the injection sites for a few days after each session, meaning you’re going through the recovery process once or twice a year. While the recovery time for cheek augmentation is about a month or so, it’s a one and done procedure.
Are You a Good Candidate?
You’re a good candidate for cheek implants if you have volume loss due to aging, flat or deflated cheeks, or hollow cheeks. You are also a good candidate if your cheeks are not symmetrical. Because cheek implants are an elective surgical procedure, you should be in good health and free from any chronic conditions.
