The VI Peel is a safe and non-invasive way to correct a wide variety of cosmetic conditions including melasma and hyperpigmentation, acne and acne scars, sun damage, enlarged pores and fine lines and wrinkles. It is a brief, outpatient treatment with minimal downtime. If you are unhappy with the texture and tone of your skin, this procedure may be right for you.
How a VI Peel Is Performed
The VI Peel is comprised of a unique blend of five acids that are applied topically to the face during treatment. These include Retin-A, Salicylic Acid, Phenol, TCA and Vitamin C. This combination is designed to slough away old, damaged skin and promote the proliferation of new, healthy skin cells. It can also significantly enhance the natural production of collagen and elastin for a fuller and more youthful appearance overall.
During treatment, your skin will be cleaned with a mild solution to strip away any dirt and oils that may impede the procedure. The VI Peel formula is then applied to the targeted areas that can include the face, neck, chest arms and hands. Patients feel minimal discomfort during this process given that a mild, numbing sensation will develop after the first pass of the VI Peel. Light peeling will begin to occur almost immediately after treatment with accelerated peeling beginning after several days.
The Long-Term Benefits of a VI Peel
Once the old, damaged skin layers have peeled away, these will be replaced with new, healthy skin cells that allow for a vibrant, youthful look. Moderate acne scarring, discoloration, blemishes and fine lines will be gone. Given that the VI Peel increases natural production of collagen and elastin, the results can be lasting so long as a commitment to proper skin care is maintained. It is often recommended, however, that patients with severe acne scars, dark blemishes or fine lines follow up with future VI Peel treatments. This procedure can be performed up to four times per year.
Caring For Your Skin before Your VI Peel
Given the deep exfoliation that will occur during a VI Peel, it is important to eliminate all exfoliation products from your self-care routine two weeks before the VI Peel is performed. It is also important to schedule a consultation with your provider to get detailed information on pre-care and aftercare that is specific to your skin profile. This will give your provider a chance to discuss your goals for the procedure and to determine whether the VI Peel is the best solution for you.
Aftercare
After your procedure, we will give you a soothing moisturizer that you can apply to freshen the face and expedite the healing process. You should continue avoiding exfoliating products in your skin care routine and must minimize exposure to direct sunlight. It is also recommended that you avoid intense exercise for the first several weeks after your peel as perspiration can irritate the skin. All of the tools that you’ll need for managing your skin immediately after the peel will be supplied as part of a post-peel kit.
